Diigo

http://www.diigo.com/user/Erobrts I think Diigo is a great resource. I know I will use this when I become a teacher. This is a great resource for myself to keep things organized and find new ideas for teaching. If I teach older kids, I could have them use this for doing research so they could keep their information in one spot. I do not think that Kindergarteners could use this. I might use this as I am still a student for when I need to research things for papers to keep them together.

GoAnimate.com: Kindergarten Homework by erobrts

Like it? Create your own at GoAnimate.com. It's free and fun! I really liked this program. It would be good to be able to show kids what to do with different problems. It would also be helpful when teaching kids correct grammar and putting sentences together. The kids could use and make the people say sentences so I know that they can form sentences on their own.

I think Pixton would be fun for my students to work with. I want to work with Kindergarten, so they would like the pictures. I could make them type words in the comics and make them make complete sentences. I would also make a comic to get my point across for something in the science aspect.

Google Document Reflection

We created a Google Document where students can all interactively answer questions about a book. We made a table and created basic questions that a 1st-3rd grade class might be able to answer about the book we chose. With Google Documents, students can answer on their own time and at their own pace, and can also read what other students have read to help them. With a project like this when other students can see what everyone writes, it is probably a better idea to have questions that can be answered with an opinion rather than a real answer because otherwise, students might just copy off of the first person who answers the questions. Also, we're not really sure how well this type of activity would work with lower elementary but would definitely be an excellent tool for students in 5th grade and up. I really like Google Document because it is fun and easy to use and is also easy for students to use and a great way for them to see what their fellow classmates are writing.

Kindergarten Math Lesson-Shapes: Voicethread

Kindergarten Math Lesson Outline: Voicethread

1. We are going to teach a kindergarten math lesson on shapes. We will introduce the shapes to the students, and then show pictures of the shapes to them. Also, we will talk about the characteristics of each shape, as well as helpful hints to remember them. 2. Indiana Common Core Standards-Math K.G.1 Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to. K.G.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size. K.G.3 Identify shapes as two-dimensional (lying in a plane, “flat”) or three-dimensional (“solid”). 3. We are going to use Voicethread to both show and explain the shapes to the students, as well as provide them with helpful hints to help them remember the shapes and their names. Also, we will use the “doodling” tool to help emphasize certain characteristics and how they differ from other shapes.

Using Twitter

My group and I followed different teachers on twitter. I think it would be a good idea to use twitter to talk to other teachers and give each other ideas. It is a lot harder to give ideas over different than blogs because twitter has a character limit. It is a good idea for short ideas or to talk about what is going on. I think it would also be a good idea to use for kids to learn how to get their point across very precisely and fast.  Thanks for following my blog! Cant wait to write again!

Exploring Blogging about Teaching

I looked at two different blogs. The first blog was http://itsnotallflowersandsausages.blogspot.com/. This blog was just a great way for teachers to vent. Teachers love their jobs but sometimes they need to vent about all the drama and kids. The other blog I looked at was http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=1337. This blog was a teacher sharing her ideas and things she tried out in class.

I loved both of these blogs. The second blog had videos to help show what she did. The first blog had a great color scheme and was very interesting. Both of them would be helpful while teaching. The second one would help teachers get ideas of new things to do. The first blog would help teachers know that they are not the only ones who struggle or get stressed out. The bloggers had great communication with their audience. The audience commented on each of the posts and talked about how the situations were just like them or how something was a great idea.

I think blogging about teaching is a great idea. It is helpful for teachers to communicate with others. I will use blogging when I teach. I will use it to share new things I try and my thoughts about different things. I want to help other teachers and know their opinions on some subjects.

Have a good week everyone!
